PRESS: Russian power prices hit historic records in December

MOSCOW, Dec 29 (PRIME) -- Russian state nuclear power corporation Rosatom had to shut down several reactors at its nuclear power plants because of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance sending power exchange prices to hit record highs in December, Kommersant business daily reported on Thursday.

In the European part and in the Urals, the exchange price for power hit a historic record of 1,800 rubles per 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) in December. Prices have risen by 12% on the year since the beginning of the month, and from December 19 through Monday it grew by 20.6% to 1,700 rubles per 1 MWh.

Power supply by nuclear power plants plummeted by 2.8 gigawatts-hour in December as compared with November, Kommersant reported quoting the Council of Electricity Producers, an association of power producers.
